What Is Turmeric?
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a flowering plant in the ginger family (Zingiberaceae), native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. The root — technically a rhizome — is harvested, dried, and ground into the familiar bright golden-yellow powder used in cooking and botanical preparations worldwide.
Turmeric has been a foundational ingredient in Indian cuisine for thousands of years, forming the base of curries, dals, golden milk (haldi doodh), and countless traditional preparations. It has also been used in Ayurvedic practice for centuries, where it is known as Haridra and classified as a warming, purifying botanical associated primarily with the Kapha and Vata doshas.
The golden color of turmeric comes from naturally occurring curcuminoid compounds — a family of polyphenols of which curcumin is the most abundant. Our capsules are whole-root powder, not a curcumin extract or concentrate.
Why Pullulan Capsules?
Pullulan is derived from tapioca — a naturally fermented, plant-based material. Unlike gelatin capsules (which are animal-derived), pullulan capsules are suitable for vegetarians and vegans and have lower oxygen permeability than most capsule materials, which helps preserve the botanical contents. We use pullulan across our entire capsule line.
Sourced Through Direct Relationships
Our botanicals are sourced through direct supplier relationships developed during sourcing trips to India. We do not source from distributors or catalog suppliers. Every batch begins with knowing where the material came from.
Lab Testing & Certificate of Analysis
Every batch we carry is tested before it ships. We make the results available so you can verify what you're purchasing.

How to Use
- Suggested use: Take 1–2 capsules daily with water or a warm beverage, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner.
- Traditional preparation note: In classical Indian and Ayurvedic culinary traditions, turmeric is commonly prepared with a fat source — warm milk, ghee, or coconut oil — and often combined with black pepper. This is a traditional culinary pairing rooted in how the spice has been used in Indian cooking for centuries.
- Can I open the capsules? Yes — the powder inside is organic turmeric root powder and can be added to warm milk, tea, smoothies, or cooking.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Turmeric powder will stain — handle accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a curcumin extract?
No. These capsules contain organic turmeric root powder — the whole root, dried and powdered. This is not a curcumin extract or a concentrated curcuminoid preparation. The naturally occurring curcuminoids are present as they exist in the whole root.
What is pullulan and why do you use it?
Pullulan is a plant-derived capsule material made through natural fermentation of tapioca. It is vegetarian, vegan, and has lower oxygen permeability than standard HPMC or gelatin capsules, which helps protect the botanical contents.
Is this certified organic?
Yes. The turmeric root powder in these capsules is certified organic.
Why does the traditional preparation include fat and black pepper?
In Indian culinary and Ayurvedic tradition, turmeric has long been prepared with fat (ghee, warm milk, coconut oil) and black pepper — this is simply how the spice has been used in traditional cooking and preparation for centuries. It reflects the culinary heritage of the ingredient.
How is Turmeric Capsules different from Turmeric Powder?
Same organic root powder — different format. The capsules offer a convenient, pre-measured daily serving. The loose powder is ideal for cooking, golden milk, and traditional preparations where you want to incorporate turmeric directly into food or beverages.
