The FDA has warned about harmful levels of heavy metals found in some unapproved Ayurvedic products and emphasizes the potential hazards of lead, mercury and arsenic contamination.

This warning is not proof that all Ayurvedic products or all shilajit contain dangerous metals; it is a strong reason to prioritize traceable sourcing and laboratory testing.
