How Do I Compare Shilajit Without Getting Lost in “89%,” “10x,” Resin, Powder, and Lab Reports?

Shilajit has one of the most confusing labels in the supplement world.
You may see:
89% fulvic acid.
40% fulvic acid.
2x concentrate.
10x concentrate.
Pure resin.
Organic powder.
Third-party tested.
Those phrases sound precise.
The problem is that they do not always mean the same thing from one supplier or product to another.
That is why, when I source Shilajit for NutriBotanix, I look at more than the number on the front of the package.
I want to know where the material came from, who supplied it, what documentation came with it, what I can establish about the finished form, and what laboratory testing actually shows.
Where our Shilajit comes from
NutriBotanix purchases Shilajit through an approved exporter in India who provides origin and product documentation for material sourced from the Nepal–India Himalayan region.
That sourcing route is deliberate.
“Himalayan Shilajit” describes material originating across a very large geographic area. I do not personally climb into the mountains and scrape Shilajit from the rocks, and I will not pretend that I do.
What I can verify is the supplier I choose, the documentation provided with the material, the product I receive, and the additional testing I commission.
That is the part of the chain I am responsible for.
We do not stop at supplier paperwork
Supplier documentation is useful. It is also only one layer of due diligence.
For selected NutriBotanix Shilajit materials, NutriBotanix commissions independent U.S. laboratory testing.
That gives me two sources of information:
what the supplier provides about the material, and what an independent laboratory reports about material NutriBotanix actually purchased.
For our resin, supplier documentation includes an analysis reporting 89% fulvic acid for the tested resin sample.
NutriBotanix also commissioned independent U.S. laboratory testing, and the available reports are published on our Lab Reports page for customers to review.
I would rather show you the documentation than ask you to rely on the words “premium Shilajit.”
What does 89% fulvic acid mean?
It means exactly what the report says:
The tested resin sample was reported at 89% fulvic acid under that analysis.
We do not extend that number to every Shilajit product we sell.
We do not claim our Shilajit powder is 89% fulvic acid.
And we do not automatically conclude that another product showing a lower percentage is poor quality.
Why?
Because percentages are only useful when you understand what material was tested and how the result was determined.
Shilajit is a complex natural material. It contains a mixture of humic substances, minerals, and other naturally occurring constituents. Source and processing can also affect the finished product.
A single number is useful information.
It is not the entire story.
What about “2x” and “10x concentrate”?
This is where Shilajit shopping can become even more confusing.
A concentration multiplier only tells you something useful if you also know:
What was the starting material?
What was concentrated?
What was removed?
How was it processed?
What does the manufacturer mean by “10x”?
How was the finished material analyzed?
Without that information, a multiplier can sound much more precise than it really is.
That is why NutriBotanix does not rank Shilajit simply by the biggest number printed on a package.
Resin and powder are related, but they are not identical products
Our resin and powder come through the same approved Indian exporter and the same broader Nepal–India Himalayan sourcing region.
They are not identical finished preparations.
The resin is a concentrated, sticky preparation.
The powder follows a different processing and purification pathway and has different physical characteristics and practical uses.
That distinction matters because a laboratory result from one format should not automatically be borrowed by another.
The 89% fulvic-acid result belongs to the tested resin sample.
NutriBotanix has not independently tested the powder for fulvic-acid percentage, so we do not apply the resin result to the powder.
The powder has its own U.S. laboratory report, including microbiological testing.
What about the powder microbiology report?
The powder's laboratory report showed none of the pathogens included in the tested panel.
The report also showed background microbiological activity associated with this naturally derived material.
We contacted the laboratory directly for clarification. The laboratory explained that non-pathogenic background organisms can occur in organic, soil-associated materials.
We do not call those organisms “probiotics” unless testing specifically establishes that.
We simply tell you what the laboratory found and make the report available for you to review.
Why testing matters
Shilajit develops in mineral-rich mountain environments.
That natural origin is part of what makes Shilajit what it is, but it is also one of the reasons I want documentation and testing rather than relying on appearance alone.
A product looking dark, sticky, earthy, or “authentic” does not tell me everything I want to know about it.
Testing gives us information that our eyes cannot.
What about home authenticity tests?
You may have seen demonstrations involving water, flames, refrigeration, stretching resin between the fingers, or watching it soften in the hand.
Those things may show you physical characteristics of a resin.
They cannot tell you what a laboratory would find in it.
They cannot establish a fulvic-acid percentage.
They cannot measure a contaminant.
And they cannot replace traceable sourcing and laboratory documentation.
Is “third-party tested” enough?
It can be a true statement and still leave questions.
A supplier may test material before selling it.
A wholesaler may test material before purchasing it.
A retailer may commission another laboratory test after receiving the material.
All of those can involve independent laboratories.
That is why we prefer to be specific:

Our available reports are published for customers to review.
What should I look for when comparing Shilajit?
You do not need to become a chemist.
Ask simple questions.
Where is the material documented as coming from?
Who is supplying it?
What form are you actually buying?
What testing is available for that product?
If a percentage is advertised, what product did that percentage come from?
If something says “10x,” what exactly was concentrated?
If a company says the product was tested, can you see the report?
Those questions are much more useful than trying to identify the “best” Shilajit from one marketing number.

I cannot personally verify the exact rock a jar of Shilajit came out of.
What I can verify is the supplier relationship I choose, the documentation I receive, the material I purchase, and the independent testing I commission.
That is the sourcing chain we chose.
That is the material we purchased.
And those are the laboratory reports we make available to you.
For me, transparency is more useful than a romantic story about the mountains.
